About
Lost Art Chains was founded at the beginning of the summer in 2007 by Alex Pettengill. Alex always loved knights and almost everything about them but by chance fell into making chain and has been working at it like a man on a mission. Alex believes in over the top customer serve and quality as a result LAC offer several services for free or little charge to any one in need of them. All Products made by Lost Art Chains unless specifically stated otherwise are backed by a life time warranty, granted its the life of Alex’s hand but as long as he can bend metal or has someone willing to do it for him LAC will fix anything that goes wrong. LAC always offers free custom sizing for any products made by LAC, only very extreme sizing is not covered by this. Alex has been sited more than once saying “You bought a bracelet from me I do not care if you have a 2 inch wrist or a 12 inch wrist you bought a bracelet and it will be made to fit your wrist.” LAC also offers at little to no cost jewelry and chain repairs as Alex says “I don’t care if you bought it somewhere else that chain needs to be fixed now bring it here and give me five minutes.” LAC will also work with you every step of the way on your commissions looking for ways to ensure you get exactly what you want, be it as simple as a bracelet or fancy as a dress.
The Product
Craftsmanship
As a Matter of preference by Alex almost all product created by LAC is made out of Neoprene Rubber, Bright Aluminum, or Anodized Aluminum. Neoprene Rubber is a material similar to that of wet suits, very stretchy very durable and not bothered much pool chemicals or salt water. Bright Aluminum is a great metal it is shiny easy to care for light and durable if used correctly, the one down side to it is it will leave a gray residue behind. This residue is a mix of polish and metal it cleans up with soap and water or a quick
trip through the wash machine for your clothes, the residue at first is prevalent and noticeable but even by the end of the first few days it is significantly reduced. While it is easy to clean up LAC unfortunately can not take the time to clean every piece we make to the point you would not notice this, there are simply to many. To clean aluminum is easy take a sink or tub (depending on size of piece) fill it with some warm water add some soap (liquid of any kind works best) and knead in a fashion similar to that of dough. Anodized aluminum is just like Bright Aluminum except it has been placed in a chemical bath and had electricity applied to it to create vibrant colors. Unlike Bright Aluminum Anodized pieces do not make things turn gray. Lost art Chains will as a commission use any metal we can get a hold of which includes but is not limited to Aluminum, Steel(mild, blacked, ect.) Gold(10k), Niobium(a hypo-allergenic material), Titanium, or Silver.
The Owner
Alex Pettingill
Alex Pettengill is 23 years old has graduated from Manhattanville college. More importantly one summer while working as a camp councilor wanted to do something to occupy his free time that was new and interesting, found on the Internet where to order some rings and pliers and some directions he printed out. Over four years, several hundred thousand rings, countless bracelets, piles of necklaces, a small battalion of stuffed animals in chain, several full outfits of womans clothing, and numerous suits of custom fitted armor later brings you up to today. Alex has always been annoyed with how poor customer service is with many other companies and has made it the 2nd most important thing for his company the first being the quality of the product he sells.
The Warranty
Lifetime
All LAC product has a Lifetime warranty unless stated otherwise. As long as Alex can bend metal or he has someone to do it for him, we here at LAC will patch up product you purchased from us free of charge. (this does not include anodized rings that had the color rub off of them, we will change a few but not the whole piece) If for some reason LAC believes you were doing things that product was not intended for the warranty is voided. Examples are, if you use a costume piece of armor as a real suit of armor it is a costume it will break but if it broke while being worn as a costume we will honor the warranty.
Commissions
Specialties
For commissions all quotes are handled by Alex, he may take a little while in giving you a quote but that is because he is trying to give you the best possible price. When Alex quotes you on a commission for a project that price is what you pay, if Alex messed up and under quoted you, his mistake your gain the price will not change. If Alex over quoted you he will probably feel really bad for over charging you but he will definitely issue you a gift certificate for the amount he over charged you. For payment, commissions are the only place LAC will accept a check. For checks cash and credit payment in full will be taken before project is under taken. Cash will only be accepted if you commission LAC at an event, we do not want you to mail us cash to have it disappear in the mail.
